Building a small house south facing hill with the fifth floor of the internal width of a single volume. The volume of external pages open with extensive views of the hills. The front of the building is dominated by a glass wall width as the face, functioning in order to see the sights of grassland outside of the house. The volume of the building creates a hidden door which is set between two parallel walls leading to the open-ended room to the courtyard outside. Wood screen door sliding glass walls form an intermittent to the open side of the volume. Roof covered with sedum blanket to replace the building site. A front yard of gravel and extend the path around the house with a series of stepped gardens set on the east side of the room reflects the fall in and pastures. Basically this is the only design used to reinforce the concept of home.


Around the House: Using less heat at night will cool down the energy bill

Q Some articles say to turn down your furnace 10 degrees at night; others say only five. My sister-in-laws furnace man said turning it down 10 degrees makes the furnace work too hard in the morning.
We have turned down ours from 70 to 63 and, so far, the house has only gone down to 66. Is turning it down 10 degrees bad for the furnace in the morning?

A It is true that some furnace manufacturers advise against turning down the thermostat more than five degrees or so at night. They say making a newer, high-efficiency furnace run for an extended morning catch-up period strains the heat exchanger.

Make the most of your balcony

Just because you don’t have a backyard, doesn’t mean that you can’t make the most of your outdoor living space. If you have a balcony, regardless of the size, you can turn it into a tranquil oasis where you will want to spend time. The first thing you need to do is evaluate the space you’re working with and decide what you will most likely do out there. If you think you’ll eat or need a place to write or do crafts, etc., then a small table and chairs would be ideal. On the other hand, if this is just a place you’d like to escape to relax or read a good book, a comfortable chair is probably the most important feature.
