What Is Hydroponics and Is It Really Useful?

Most people are rather surprised when they first hear about what is hydroponics because they were not aware of the possibility of growing plants without soil. Hydroponics is the process in which a gardener will use gravel, sand or other materials to hold plants while they grow them without the use of soil.

This makes no sense to someone who first hears about it because they do not know how they will be able to give the plants the nutrients that they need without the proper soil.

There will be some kind of reservoir used in the hydroponics process, and this reservoir will contain all of the nutrients that the plants are going to need on a regular basis.

There are a number of different things you can use as a medium to grow the plants, but you really just need to find something that will allow the roots of the plants to grow.

As long as the roots can grow and you can get the nutrients into the plants, you will be able to learn what is hydroponics and have no problems with your little hydroponic garden.

There are many unique advantages to the world of hydroponics, but you need to be careful about knowing what you are doing before you get started.

PARK TOWNSHIP — Flower lover Carol Carter had two kinds of daylilies in her garden when she joined the Grand Valley Daylily Society in 2007.

Her gardens today boast more than 650 daylily varieties, and that number is still growing.

Not bad for someone whose only contact with daylilies five years ago was mainly the old orange ditch lilies that proliferate in gardens and along roadways in the summer.

I had been gardening for 40 years when a neighbor invited me over to see her lilies. I never realized there were so many varieties of these beautiful flowers and I was hooked, said Carter who joined the club and began buying daylilies at garden centers and on the Internet as well as trading with club members.

Daylilies are perennial plants that are prized for their dazzling colors, sweet aromas and delicate designs.
