Today, Jan. 1, 2012, could mark the beginning of the end of the traditional, 100-watt incandescent bulb.

In fact, you already may be having trouble finding them in stores.

Under federal light bulb efficiency standards approved in 2007, old-style 100-watt incandescent bulbs will be phased out this year, 75-watt bulbs in 2013, and 40- and 60-watt bulbs in 2014.
